A New Chapter Begins: Grand Lake Unveils Artistic Town Marquee

A new chapter has begun in Grand Lake with the completion of the long-awaited Town Marquee in Town Park. In partnership with the Town of Grand Lake, the Grand Lake Creative District has brought to life a landmark that is far more than functional—it’s an artistic, cultural, and environmental statement. At the center of this project is We Are All in This Together, a stunning public art sculpture by Colorado artist Grace Noel, designed in collaboration with architect Tim Hodsdon of Salt Workshop. Together, they have crafted a piece that honors tradition, inspires stewardship, and invites reflection.

The marquee is anchored by a totemic archway made of painted Cor-Ten steel animals—elk, fox, birds, and fish—that represent the wildlife of Grand Lake. Suspended on repurposed ski-lift cable, the sculpture features kinetic moon phases that move with the wind and respond to the sun and rain. These elements echo the Ute Creation Story, connecting the viewer to the sacred origins of this land and the Ute people’s spiritual bond with the headwaters of the Colorado River. Stone monuments at the base ground the piece in the boardwalk’s path, symbolizing the connection between earth and sky.

Beyond its visual impact, this marquee carries deep meaning for the Grand Lake community. It was envisioned following the East Troublesome Fire, which exposed vulnerabilities in the region’s ecosystem and water supply. In a time of rebuilding and reimagining, We Are All in This Together reminds us that resilience comes through unity—with one another, with nature, and with history. The project was supported by a Colorado Creates: Creative Corps ARP grant through the National Endowment for the Arts and Colorado Creative Industries—an affirmation of the town’s commitment to creativity as a catalyst for healing and growth.

More than just a signpost, the marquee now stands as a gateway—welcoming visitors, honoring the past, and lighting the way forward. Stop by Town Park to experience it for yourself and reflect on what it means to be part of this shared journey.
