SUMMARY:Intentional Art: Mosaics\, Memory\, and Making Whole
DESCRIPTION:Join mosaic artist Brenda Fraser for a conversation about making art and finding healing using things many people throw away. \nBrenda assembles mosaics from vintage jewelry and found objects as a way to honor matrilineal lineage. Her work draws on the natural world\, the American West\, and a deep conviction that beauty and wholeness can emerge from broken things—discarded and overlooked objects that still carry memory\, energy\, and meaning. \nBrenda will share her background and creative journey\, walk participants through her process\, and reflect on her time in residence at Shadowcliff. She will bring samples of her work. \nThis talk is part of Shadowcliff’s 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies\, bringing artists to the mountains for a week of creative work in Grand Lake. \n2026 Still Point Sessions residencies have been supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Town of Grand Lake Donor Advised Fund.

SUMMARY:Matana Roberts: New Solo Saxophone Improvisations
DESCRIPTION:Join saxophonist and multidisciplinary artist Matana Roberts for an evening of new solo saxophone improvisations in Shadowcliff’s historic chapel. \nRoberts is perhaps best known for Coin Coin\, an ongoing twelve-part cycle that weaves together history\, narrative\, community\, and political life into what they have described as “panoramic sound quilting.” \nRoberts has performed at Newport Jazz Festival\, Big Ears\, Berliner Festspiele\, and concert halls across Europe and the United States. Their work has been described as soul-baring\, transporting\, and “like getting a glimpse into another dimension.” \nThis performance is part of Shadowcliff’s 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies\, bringing artists to the mountains for a week of creative work in Grand Lake. \n2026 Still Point Sessions residencies have been supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Town of Grand Lake Donor Advised Fund.

SUMMARY:Valuing the Artist: External Validation\, Self-Worth\, and Creative Practice
DESCRIPTION:Join artist and creative consultant Nick Leavens for a conversation about one of the most persistent questions in any creative life: how do we decide what creative work is worth? \nDrawing from his own path across theater\, stone sculpture\, and filmmaking\, Leavens will explore how artists experience and internalize the value assigned to their work throughout their careers\, examining the relationship between external validation\, self-worth\, and creative practice. How does external recognition shape what we make? What happens to the creative self when the world’s valuation and our own sense of worth fall out of alignment? \nThese questions reach beyond the professional artist. Anyone who has made something\, or cares about someone who does\, will find a place for themselves in this conversation. \nThis conversation is part of Shadowcliff’s 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies\, bringing artists to the mountains for a week of creative work in Grand Lake.

SUMMARY:Making Anyway: A Conversation About Creativity\, Voice\, and What Gets in the Way
DESCRIPTION:Join playwright Renae Jarrett for an open conversation about creative life\, and what it feels like when it stops. \nOver the past few years\, Renae moved from writing dozens of plays a year to a complete standstill. In this conversation\, she’ll share honestly about how that happened\, how she has and hasn’t found her way through it\, and what she’s learned about the importance of making when there doesn’t feel to be a place for your voice. \nShe’ll share work from the writers who shaped her\, including Adrienne Kennedy\, Wallace Shawn\, and Caryl Churchill\, as a way into the conversation\, and invite participants to bring their own stories of creative blocks and how they did or didn’t work through them. \nThis conversation is part of Shadowcliff’s 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies\, bringing artists to the mountains for a week of creative work in Grand Lake.

SUMMARY:Light & Shadow: An evening of shadow puppetry and live poetry
DESCRIPTION:Come to Shadowcliff for an evening of improvised performance. FireTale Productions\, a Kansas City-based shadow puppet theater co-founded by Ritu Nanos and Mikal Shapiro\, will weave movement and form in response to poetry spoken live by visual artist and writer José Faus. \nFireTale’s work draws on oral tradition and cultural myth to explore what it means to be human in relationship to the living world. José Faus brings a practice rooted in community\, language\, and the catalytic role of artists in public life. Together\, they offer an evening that is both intimate and expansive. A reminder that storytelling is alive\, generous\, and capable of surprise. \nThis performance is part of Shadowcliff’s 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies\, bringing José Faus\, Ritu Nanos\, and Mikal Shapiro together for a week of creative work in the mountains above Grand Lake. \nShadowcliff Mountain Lodge & Retreat Center\, 105 Co Rd 663\, Grand Lake\, CO 80447
