SUMMARY:Shadowcliff Artist Residency: Creative Reflections and Practice Sharing
DESCRIPTION:Shadowcliff\, in partnership with the Grand Lake Creative District\, invites you to an event featuring artists from the Shadowcliff Artist Residency. Join us on Friday\, September 11\, at 7:30 PM\, at the Grand Lake Community House. \nFor as long as people have gathered at Shadowcliff\, it has offered an environment that broadens people’s creative horizons by allowing for serious encounter and reflection. In 1972\, Warren Rempel\, one of Shadowcliff’s founders\, wrote: \n“The majesty of the mountains seems to draw people into both structured self-reflection and unstructured searching for deeper values.” \nThat has been true of Shadowcliff for more than fifty years\, and it is one of the reasons we chose to bring artists here for unstructured time to rest\, reflect\, research\, and make. \nThis year\, we welcome five nationally recognized artists working across dance\, photography\, poetry\, music\, and visual art. Each will offer a window into their practice—a reading\, a performance\, a conversation\, an artist talk. Their work has occupied museums\, galleries\, and stages across the country. For one evening\, they will share their work with Grand Lake in the intimacy of the Grand Lake Community House\, followed by an opportunity for you to meet them and ask about their work. \nThis event is open to the community\, including Grand Lake residents\, community partners\, and guests. \nThe 2026 Shadowcliff Artist Residency was supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Teazey Foundation and a Colorado Creates Grant\, made possible through funding from Colorado Creative Industries (CCI) partnership with the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA). \nThis event is offered on a community-supported\, sliding-scale basis\, starting at $5.

SUMMARY:Valuing the Artist: External Validation\, Self-Worth\, and Creative Practice
DESCRIPTION:Join artist and creative consultant Nick Leavens for a conversation about one of the most persistent questions in any creative life: how do we decide what creative work is worth? \nDrawing from his own path across theater\, stone sculpture\, and filmmaking\, Leavens will explore how artists experience and internalize the value assigned to their work throughout their careers\, examining the relationship between external validation\, self-worth\, and creative practice. How does external recognition shape what we make? What happens to the creative self when the world’s valuation and our own sense of worth fall out of alignment? \nThese questions reach beyond the professional artist. Anyone who has made something\, or cares about someone who does\, will find a place for themselves in this conversation. \nThis conversation is part of Shadowcliff’s 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies\, bringing artists to the mountains for a week of creative work in Grand Lake.

SUMMARY:Making Anyway: A Conversation About Creativity\, Voice\, and What Gets in the Way
DESCRIPTION:Join playwright Renae Jarrett for an open conversation about creative life\, and what it feels like when it stops. \nOver the past few years\, Renae moved from writing dozens of plays a year to a complete standstill. In this conversation\, she’ll share honestly about how that happened\, how she has and hasn’t found her way through it\, and what she’s learned about the importance of making when there doesn’t feel to be a place for your voice. \nShe’ll share work from the writers who shaped her\, including Adrienne Kennedy\, Wallace Shawn\, and Caryl Churchill\, as a way into the conversation\, and invite participants to bring their own stories of creative blocks and how they did or didn’t work through them. \nThis conversation is part of Shadowcliff’s 2026 Still Point Sessions residencies\, bringing artists to the mountains for a week of creative work in Grand Lake.
