SUMMARY:Leather: Traditional Buckskin Braintanning
DESCRIPTION:Step into one of the oldest traditional crafts in North America and learn the complete process of creating authentic braintanned buckskin from raw animal hides. In this immersive four-part course\, instructor Nolan Morningstar will guide students through every stage of the transformation process using time-honored techniques and hands-on instruction. \nOver the course of four workshop sessions\, students will flesh\, grain\, membrane\, brain\, soften\, and smoke their hides while learning the science\, history\, and practical skills behind traditional hide tanning. Each class builds on the previous session\, allowing participants to experience the full progression from raw hide to finished buckskin. \nThe workshop will take place September 5\, 12\, 26 & 27 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Due to the traditional tanning process\, time between several classes is required to properly prepare the hides for the next stage. \nThis is a highly tactile and physically active class where students should expect to work outdoors at times\, get dirty\, and engage in moderate to strenuous physical activity. Individual guidance will be provided throughout the process\, and students will receive handouts to support continued learning beyond the workshop. \nParticipants may work individually on their own hide or partner with another student to share a hide and alternate tasks. Students under 16 should attend with an adult partner. \n\n\n\nWhat’s included\n\n\nAll hide tanning materials and instructional handouts. \n\n\nUse of instructor-provided tanning tools and equipment during class. \n\n\nHands-on instruction throughout all four workshop sessions. \n\n\n\n\nWhat’s not included\n\n\nTransportation to and from class. \n\n\nNon-alcoholic beverages \n\n\nsnacks \n\n\nClothing suitable for messy outdoor work. \n\n\n\n\nItinerary\n\nThis is a physically demanding workshop that involves scraping\, wringing\, stretching\, and outdoor work. \nStudents should wear clothes and footwear that can get dirty or stained. \nSome workshop sessions must be spaced apart to allow proper hide processing between stages. \nfinal smoking will be completed by the instructor after class for later pickup. \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Woodworking Joinery by Hand
DESCRIPTION:September 20\, 2026 \nLocation: Grand Lake\, CO \nAs woodworking hobbyists\, we can’t always work wood as much as we would like; therefore\, it can be difficult to achieve the same level of skill as full-time craftsmen.  Also as hobbyists\, finishing our projects quickly may not be as much of a priority\, so advancing our projects more slowly and carefully is possible because there are no deadlines. \nSugita’s Woodworking Method\, by Toyohisa Sugita\, offers a unique approach to woodworking\, emphasizing hand craftsmanship and precision.  By leveraging saw guides with magnetic sheets\, this innovative methodology allows woodworkers of all skill levels to achieve high quality results with hand tools.  The skills and techniques outlined in the book\, Woodworking Joinery by Hand\, enables hand-cut joinery with impressive accuracy\, eliminating the need for nails or screws while at the same time achieving the same high machining results of power tools. \n$600.00 includes all materials/tools \n$240.00 Includes book\, use of instructional materials\, and purchase of MiRAI saw.
